Students in the classes of Frau Concannon and Frau Hodgdon delivered their recitations of German poetry before an audience of peers and volunteer judges.

Students had to remember a range of preselected pieces of poetry in German Levels 1-4, from short 8-line poems for young German audiences all the way to the difficult opening soliloquy spoken by Faust in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust: Der Tragödie erster Teil.

Transitioning a traditional school library program and services to a library learning commons model is supported by the ConVal School District. Research indicates that the development of flexible learning environments, designed to provide interactive and collaborative opportunities and experiences, is essential to address the contemporary needs of school communities.

This was the focus of a pre-conference workshop at the Christa McAuliffe Technology Conference (CMTC) in Manchester on November 27.

There are carved pumpkins on a round table in front of the U-shaped computer alcove.  Two paper bats flutter near the ceiling above the checkout counter. Clearly, the spirit of Halloween is present in the ConVal Library and Learning Commons.

Networking classes in ConVal’s Region 14 Applied Technology Center begin with the fundamentals. Students learn how to successfully disassemble and reassemble personal computers while identifying the function and operation of individual components such as disk drives, video controllers, power supplies, and motherboards.

Identifying exactly which hardware component is failing is the first step towards successful problem-solving.

On Friday, October 20, ConVal School District school counselors attended the annual New Hampshire School Counselor Association conference in Concord. Dr. Cassie Yackley was the keynote speaker and addressed the topic of “Creating Trauma-Sensitive Schools: Using Relationships To Promote Growth And Learning.”

The New Hampshire School Counselor Association (NHSCA) is a division of the American School Counselor Association and represents over 400 of New Hampshire’s professional school counselors.
