The race format was a skiathlon, where competitors first race in the classic technique, then change their equipment in a transition zone and finish the race using freestyle, or skate, technique. The distance of each leg was about 3.5 kilometers, resulting in a total length of approximately 7 k’s.
Four schools were represented: ConVal, Kingswood, Lebanon, and Hanover. The unique format was selected to model the anticipated style of the State Championship competitions in order to give the skiers some practice in this unique event.
Co-captain Eva Calcutt led the Cougars, maintaining her consistent top performance on the team. She was followed across the finish line by Gwen Inglis, Eme Tyler-Wall, Laura Phillips, and Grace Phillips.
The team will head to Great Glen Trails in Gorham on Wednesday, March 3, for their Divisional Championships.

Eddie Robinson was one of the greatest college football coaches to ever walk the sidelines. He coached at Grambling State University, a historic Black College, from 1941-1997.
During that time, Coach Robinson and his teams collected over 400 victories, placing him third for most victories in college football.
Although the victories are impressive, it was the values that Coach Robinson instilled in his players that made him so special. From day one of starting at Grambling, he preached to his players to say “I am somebody” and “I am here to make a difference."

Lamkin is often referred to as a Griot poet — a poet who’s just as often thought of as a musician or oral storyteller.
When Lamkin performs, he accompanies himself with a West African instrument called a Kora. The Kora is a 21-stringed instrument that sort of looks like a lute and sounds like a harp.
Lamkin is a sort of a modern-day bard, with many words loaded, with pointed satire and wit, offering commentary and critique of contemporary events, culture, and community.
Lamkin’s poems play with the meaning and sounds of words that evolve into compositions that are as much about creating a feeling as anything else.
The following poem by Kurtis Lamkin is called "Jump Mama."
pretty summer day
grammama sittin on her porch
easy
rockin her grandbaby in her wide lap

what the young girls say
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahToday, in honor of Black History Month, we celebrate an African-American performer with a special New Hampshire connection — Richard Potter (1783–1835).
Potter was born in Hopkinton, MA, as the son of Sir Charles Henry Frankland, a tax collector for the Port of Boston, and his mother Dinah, a slave in Frankland’s household. He attended school in Massachusetts and then moved to Europe to apprentice with a Scottish magician.
In post-Revolutionary America, an era when successful magicians were exclusively white and mostly European-born, Richard Potter broke the color barrier by becoming both the first American-born and the first black professional stage illusionist.
Potter performed up and down the East Coast and as far south as Alabama. His performances offered a mixture of magic, fire-eating, comedy, and ventriloquism. His act enjoyed a highly successful career that spanned a quarter century.
In 1814, Potter moved to New Hampshire where he purchased about 200 acres in the village of Andover in Merrimack county, near what is now Mt Kearsarge State Forest Park. Potter built a large mansion on his estate. Legend has it that “the Potter Place,” as it was called, served as the inspiration for the design of the New Hampshire state house in Concord which was built in 1819.
Potter is widely considered the first African-American celebrity. If you go to Andover, you can visit the Potter Place Railroad Station and Museum. To this day, there is a portion of the town of Andover that continues to be called "Potter Place."
