Members of the ConVal Nordic team travelled this past Wednesday to Plainfield to compete in their first of the season classic race against Lebanon and Hanover.
Co-captains Eva Calcutt and Cami Hendrixson led the Cougar girls in the 5K race, taking two laps respectively around an old airstrip and a challenging hilly route in the adjacent wooded terrain.
Senior Eme Tyler-Wall and first-year skier Laura Phillips followed Calcutt and Hendrixson across the finish line.
The sole Cougar boy competing, novice skier Nathan Klonel, posted his first finish in a very competitive field.
ConVal’s next race will be at the Dublin Nordic Center on Wednesday, February 3.

Co-captains Eva Calcutt and Cami Hendrixson led the small ConVal group in their first competition, coming in 9th and 15th respectively in the girls race. Eme Tyler-Wall (27th) and Grace Phillips (29th) rounded off ConVal’s entrants.
The Cougars will travel to Lebanon on Wednesday, January 27, for their next race.

Signage at the entrances serves as a reminder that all persons — students, teachers, staff, and contracted service providers — will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19.
After a series of questions about any newly experienced health symptoms (loss of taste or smell, fever or chills, cough, headaches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches), the recent travel history and contacts with someone who is suspected or confirmed to have had COVID-19 in the past 14 days is being reviewed.
Finally, temperatures are checked with a no-touch thermal scanning thermometer before individuals can enter the school.

This evening the ConVal School Board approved the recommendation of the COVID-19 Monitoring Team to move to the Green Phase of the ConVal Reopening Plan.
This move allows for reinstituting in-person learning on January 19, 2021, and to restart ConVal High School’s winter athletic programs, with varsity teams participating in a competitive, limited, regional NHIAA sanctioned schedule. During this time, members of the Blue and Gold Cohorts will be allowed to combine and form teams.
Any ConVal High School athlete who participates will be required to sign a COVID-19 waiver and they, as well as siblings or household members, would be required to learn/work remotely until after their final competition and a 14-day quarantine before they can return to in-person learning.
The following timeline will be used to restart ConVal’s winter sports schedule:
1/14/21-1/17/21 - Team conditioning and practice sessions; coaches will be in contact with their athletes regarding tryout/practice dates and times.
1/18/21 - First date to play games.
This plan will be re-evaluated prior to and during these dates to determine if COVID-19 cases have increased in the region.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at jreitnauer@conval.edu.
Sincerely,
John Reitnauer
