ConVal Choir Participates In “200 Years of Silent Night” Celebration

ConVal Concert Choir members were recently invited by the Akademisches Gymnasium in Salzburg, Austria, to participate in the “Joseph Mohr Project.” Joseph Mohr, who attended the school from 1799 to 1810, wrote the lyrics to the song “Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”) which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.

Students at the school came up with the idea of a video project to help celebrate the anniversary. They wanted to produce a video that showed the worldwide appeal of the song and the many languages in which it is performed annually. Students from around the world submitted video clips singing the song in their own native language, resulting in a video showcasing Joseph Mohr’s achievement of connecting people, cultures and countries via music.

ConVal High School, which has had an exchange program with the Akademisches Gymnasium in Salzburg for the past twenty years, was asked to participate in the project and the Concert Choir under the direction of Krystal Morin contributed a recording. You can see the video here; our choir is the last one featured, at 3:44 mins.
