ConVal Staff Get Certified In CPR, AED, And First Aid

Last Tuesday afternoon, several ConVal staff members attended the classroom portion of a blended learning class in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and general First Aid, offered by the Red Cross.

After completing a 2 1/2 hr online portion on their own, the members of the certification cohort met with ConVal High School nurses Judi Bernardi and Gretchen Shippee for additional, in-person learning and demonstration of skills.

The staff members learned about techniques for CPR, AED, and First Aid and how to properly address conditions such as bleeding, choking, allergic reactions, asthma, and stroke. They also learned protocols for how non-health care professionals should communicate with nurses and emergency personnel while awaiting professional medical assessment.

The members of the certification group were: Alisha Davis, Kat Foecking, Colleen Harding, Mary Hopgood, Jason Lambert, Kevin Morneault, Moira Milne, Krystal Morin, and Nate Townsend. These staff members are now certified for the next two years in adult and child CPR, AED, and First Aid. According to Gretchen Shippee, additional certification opportunities will be offered on a monthly basis in the future.
