Hautanen Wins Peterborough Rotary Speech Contest

Four ConVal students took part in the Peterborough Rotary Club’s Four Way Test Speech Contest at the Club’s weekly meeting at the Unitarian Church in Peterborough.
Seniors Aiden Hall of Peterborough, Natalia Hautanen of Peterborough and Timothy LaPierre of Dublin, advanced to the contest after competing through their Public Speaking class at ConVal.
Under the direction of English teacher Cathy Riley, the students composed five to seven minute original speeches that apply the Rotary Four WayTest in our everyday relationships with other people.

The Rotary FourWay Test is:
  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Rotarians scored the speeches based on content, organization, and delivery.
LaPierre received third place; Hall second and Hautanen first. Hautanen  will go on to compete at the District level on May 6.
