UPDATE: LAST DAY TO REGISTER — TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 2019
Registration is now open for the 2019 ConVal Summer Academy which will be held July 8 – August 1, 2019.
The Academy is a great way to extend student learning through the summer to prevent the usual “summer slide” — the traditional loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of the summer holidays. Taking ConVal Summer Academy courses also helps to get requirements and electives out of the way so that your student’s class schedule can remain flexible and open to opportunities during the regular school year.
The Academy offers participation in a musical drama production ("Annie, Jr"), art instruction in ceramics, jewelry-making and metalsmithing, an English comedy workshop, and a course in forensic science, just to mention some of the most popular selections.
In addition, the Academy offers credit recovery and readiness courses in Mathematics as well as regular courses (e.g. American Government, American Economics) that can be accomplished on a concentrated time schedule.
Attendance in the Summer Academy is free for students of the ConVal School District, including incoming freshmen. All that is required is a deposit for attending a class ($25 for students in grades 5-8, $50 for high school students) but the fee is refunded upon completion of the course.
There are two day-long workshops organized by the School Counseling Department in conjunction with the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF). One specializes in the college admissions process, the other concentrates on the college admissions essay.

Millipore Sigma offered ConVal Regional High School the opportunity to host the company's Curiosity Cube on its national tour this week. Students from all schools in the district were welcome to book an exploratory tour during the two days that the Cube was available in Peterborough.
The Cube is a large shipping container that has been converted into a mobile laboratory. According to Millipore, the aim of the Curiosity Cube is to spark interest in the sciences.
"As a life science company, curiosity has always been the force that drives us and continues to motivate us," the Millipore website explains. "The Curiosity Cube® is an extension of our desire to put our expertise in science and technology to work for human progress."
"The Curiosity Cube program began in 2017, as a platform to increase access to science education in elementary and middle schools. The concept of The Curiosity Cube is actually based on our Curiosity Labs™ program, in which our employees go into classrooms and conduct hands-on experiments with a class."
"With the Curiosity Cube, we’re able to extend our impact beyond the classroom and reach even more students and their families."
You can read all the details about the Curiosity Cube here.
Millipore Sigma is a global science and technology company with around 52,000 employees working in more than 66 countries and a diversified portfolio of over 300,000 products.
Digital Photo and Video students Stephanie Barney, Olivia Mullins, Alyssa Spiller, Zachary Nielsen, and Eddie Pope have earned the right to have their films shown at this year's New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival (NHHSSFF) on May 18.
Originality, cinematic storytelling and technical execution are the primary scoring elements of the NHHSSFF. All films, regardless of type or genre, are judged on the filmmaker's ability to effectively captivate an audience through cinematic expression.
After an initial review of all the submissions, the films with the highest scores will be screened at the annual two-hour New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival, which takes place at Red River Theatres in Concord.
In order to be considered, films must be produced exclusively by students in grades 9-12 who are currently enrolled and attending a New Hampshire public or private high school, or who are residents of New Hampshire and enrolled in high school elsewhere. New Hampshire homeschooled students ages 14-18 are also eligible. Films do not have to have been created as part of a school project.
On May 2, ConVal Regional High School signed an articulation agreement with Keene State College, giving ConVal students who have completed a CTE program up to 8 credits at Keene.
The agreement goes into effect immediately. Therefore, students enrolling in classes at Keene State this fall are eligible to receive this new benefit.
The faculty and staff of the Region 14 Applied Technology Center provide opportunities for all learners to integrate academic knowledge and technical expertise in order to prepare students for further study in a specific career.
The Region 14 Applied Technology Center currently offers the following certificate programs:
Advanced Manufacturing Systems
Building & Construction Trades
Business Management
Careers in Education
Computer Networking
Computer Programming & Software Development
Digital Photography & Video Arts

"I'm very excited about this new partnership," said Jen Kiley, the Director of the Region 14 Applied Technology Center at ConVal Regional High School. "Keene State College has shown significant interest in transitioning towards a full dual enrollment program, beyond the articulation. This is a great opportunity for our students."
Sarah Newell and Jill Karlicek received 2nd place in the American Institute of Architects New Hampshire (AIANH) High School Design Competition.
The objectives of the competition are to: increase awareness of the relationships between space, human scale and function; gain experience in recognizing the various challenges in planning and designing indoor and outdoor spaces for specific uses; exercise analytical abilities and creativity in solving the problems; and gain experience in communicating planning and design ideas using scale drawings and models.
The competition gives students a fun opportunity to develop these skills and to learn about the various aspects of planning and design.
All New Hampshire high school students are encouraged to participate. Students can work individually or in teams of up to three students. Top winners receive cash awards to help with their college education.
Congratulations, Sara and Jill, on a job well done!
