“I was totally surprised when I saw my teammates, parents, coaches, and [Athletic Director] Mark Swasey in the room,” said Lily Sheridan, as she described the beginning of the signing ceremony for her athletic scholarship with Central Connecticut State University. Sheridan was recruited by CCSU to play on the Blue Devils lacrosse team in the fall of 2018.
“There was a big packet with a lot of papers in a number of folders. In the end, I was required to sign in just a few places,” Sheridan continued. “After I was done signing, everyone clapped. It is a big relief for me to be committed to a great program.”
The CCSU women’s lacrosse team is not only a strong athletic contender in its conference, it also has a proven academic track record. In the spring of 2017, the team was recognized with IWLCA Zag Sports academic honors. CCSU was named an Academic Honor Squad, with four seniors being named to the Academic Honor Roll. In order to be named an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, a program must attain a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. The Blue Devils have earned the honor for three consecutive seasons.
“After the official ceremony, we had a lot of fun,” Sheridan concluded. “We all had cake — really good cake!”
