The ConVal Music Department performed two versions of its winter concert repertoire: the longer evening program on December 20 and a short school assembly version on December 21.
The program featured choral pieces by Vivaldi, Lotti, Rachmaninoff, and Clausen. Of particular note were the choirs’ renditions of “Betelehemu,” a Nigerian carol, and the Swedish carol “Jul, Jul” which the choir performed in honor of ConVal’s Swedish exchange student Benjamin Lars Agnarsson. Truly outstanding was the performance of freshman Grace Christensen as the soloist in “City Called Heaven.”
The Clef Hangers, the school female a cappella group, and the Morin Tunes, ConVal’s male a cappella ensemble, performed separately “How Will I Now?,” “Valerie,” “Oasis,” and “Somebody I Used To Know,” and then combined for an a cappella rendition of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”
The ConVal String ensemble performed the “Dance of the Tumblers” by Rimsky-Korskoff. The Contemporary String Ensemble gave a rousing rendition of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s “Faith Noel,” arranged by senior Colin Brinkley.
The various band ensembles entertained the audience with “Coastal Overture,” “String of Pearls,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Chameleon,” “Oracle,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Winterfest.”
The combined band and choir ensembles ended the concert with an exhilarating rendition of Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festiva” as their sendoff number. Congratulations all on a truly memorable concert!
