Congratulations to sophomore Brigham Boice who is the recipient of the 2019 James Grant Youth Achievement Spirit Award.
Boice earned the award for his commitment to preserving Peterborough’s history. He is a volunteer for the Peterborough Historical Society and is a colonial interpreter. As a colonial interpreter, he dresses in traditional colonial clothing and demonstrating cooking techniques from the 17th and 18th centuries.
A self-taught computer programmer, Boice took his love of history into the digital age, creating Newpast: Peterborough 1886. This interactive game allows the user to explore Peterborough as it was in 1886 as compared to how it is now.
Boice’s amazing immersive experience is currently being beta-tested with elementary school children and the Monadnock Center for History and Culture. He previously shared his creation at a Celebration of Learning event at ConVal Regional High School (see Taking Learning To A Whole New Level: Student Re-Creates Late 19th Century Peterborough In VR).
Congratulations, Brigham, on this outstanding achievement!
