[post_content] => On March 19th, the New England Music Festival held its 89th annual concert at Gilford High School, NH. The performance featured high school instrumental and choral students from around New England.
ConVal High School's Beck Lorimer, percussionist, won an audition with a convincing score and was accepted to the festival. He performed with the concert band in challenging literature, including Tichelli's Blue Shades and Holst's Second Suite in F.
The New England Music Festival offers students an adjudicated performance opportunity for instrumental solos, as well as vocal solos and ensembles. Through their outstanding evaluations in one of those Solo & Ensemble Festivals, New England's most gifted music students are invited to join together in the New England Band, Chorus and Orchestra at the three day Concert Festival, which is hosted annually by a regional high school.

[post_content] => Junior Isaac Bacon is a national Scholastic Arts Gold Medal winner for his photograph "The Egg." The picture was taken during one of Ms. Bastoni's Digital Photography classes which explored different lighting options.
Bacon's national gold medal award means that a jury selected his picture as being in the top 1% of this year's submissions to Scholastic Arts. Only the top 2,000 works in the country earn National Medals and will be celebrated at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall.
Each year, Scholastic Arts partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7 through 12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing.
Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
This year, students submitted over 320,000 works of art and writing to the Awards. More than 68,000 were recognized at the regional level and celebrated in local exhibitions and ceremonies.

[post_content] => The New Hampshire Council for the Social Studies (NHCSS) has announced its choice of ConVal High School teacher Eric Bowman as the recipient of the 2016 Donald R. Marquiz Memorial Teacher of the Year Award.
Social Studies chair Nancy Gagnon visited Bowman's classroom at the end of the school day on Friday to read the official declaration and to share some of the statements that had been made in support of Bowman's nomination. Bowman was recognized for his inspired teaching style, for his role as a mentor in the department, for his continued leadership of Student Council, for his successful coaching of students in co-curricular opportunities like History Bowl and Granite State Challenge, and for his untiring work in the community.
Students spontaneously applauded when the announcement was made and congratulated him on the prestigious award. As one of the students had written in her support of Mr. Bowman's Teacher of the Year nomination: "Before I came to ConVal, I didn't appreciate the opportunities that I was given by my teachers at school. I didn't recognize how incredible learning is or how much I could truly love it. Mr. Bowman is one of the teachers that I have had that made me realize this."
Congratulations, Mr. Bowman, on the award and thank you for all you do to inspire our students!
