Members of the ConVal Envirothon Team have been learning and preparing all year for the annual Envirothon Competition.
This year, NH Competition Day was held on Tuesday, May 24, at the McLane Audubon Center in Concord. The ConVal team placed first in the wildlife category, second in the current environmental issues category (emphasis: the invasive species Emerald Ash Borer), and came in third overall!
The members of the ConVal Team are: Lawton Fagiano, Astrid Kipka, Morgaine O’Connor, Kaitlyn Giza, Tyler LeBlanc. The team is being coached by Dana Wood. The Envirothon is a hands-on problem solving competition throughout the United States and Canada challenging students in five areas:
- soils/land use,
- aquatic ecology,
- forestry,
- wildlife and
- current environmental issues.
The mission of the Envirothon is to “develop knowledgeable skilled and dedicated citizens who have an understanding of natural resources and are willing and prepared to work towards achieving and maintaining a balance between the quality of life and the quality of the environment”.
Led by the team web designer, Lawton Fagiano, the students produced and published an interactive website and blog that can be found at nhinvasives.info. It is an impressive site!
