The German Club emerged victorious from the Iron Chef Competition which was held on Monday, May 16, at South Meadow School.
Every year, the members of the French, German, and Spanish Clubs at ConVal High School engage in a friendly competition that involves cooking dishes from their respective foreign countries and serving them to a panel of judges. The criteria include taste, presentation, authenticity of recipe, and ingenious use of the secret ingredient. Each table is decorated with articles reminiscent of the target country and decor is an important component of the evaluation process.
The German Club won this year with a menu selection that included an hors d’oeuvre of Beet and Brie Salad, a second course of Pretzel Bites, Bratwurst, and Sauerkraut, a third course of Traditional Fondue, followed by Austrian Kaiserschmarr’n as dessert. Each of the courses was accompanied by appropriate drink choices: German mineral water, German-style cider, and tea.
Congratulations to all participants who made this year’s Iron Chef Competition a particularly exquisite culinary delight!
