ConVal sophomore Jillian Karlicek will be the artist for the month of May at the Dublin Community Center.
Jillian has been producing origami works since the age of 5. She started with the well-known crane and quickly mastered the traditional art of paper folding, creating ornate boxes, flowers and birds. Jillian says, “Making animals out of a single flat piece of paper, creating their definitive shapes, has always been fun. I’ve also been inspired by how origami is integrated into science, from the folds of a parachute to the layering of DNA in modern medicine.”
Most recently Jillian’s work has expanded to Golden Venture Folding with hundreds of papers per piece and the intricacies of Kusudama origami, the precursor of modular origami.
An opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 5 – 7 pm. Light refreshments will be served. In conjunction with her show, Jillian also plans to teach a workshop at the Community Center on Saturday, May 20, from 10 – 11:30 am.
