On May 17, junior Talia Rokes and senior Michael Zrzavy were honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Mary Varnum Platts Chapter of Peterborough at a joint ceremony for Conant, ConVal, and Mascenic High School students. The luncheon took place at the Monadnock Inn in Jaffrey.
Rokes was selected by the ConVal Social Studies Department as the U.S. History Student of the Year. In announcing the award, Nancy Redling of the DAR referenced the article “Defy The Limits of Learning” that Social Studies teacher Greg O’Brien had written about Rokes in the May 9th edition of the Monadnock Ledger Transcript.
Zrzavy is the recipient of the Peterborough chapter’s DAR Good Citizen Award for 2016-17. He was asked to read his DAR essay “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It” to the assembled audience.
