Congratulations to the ConVal Cougar Unified Soccer Team who garnered the Division I State Championship again this year. The final game was played on November 4th.
After the game, coach Ellingwood summed up the game this way: “For the second year in a row, our Unified Soccer Team played Exeter for the championship.
Exeter has become our rival in Unified Sports. We have had very competitive contests in both Basketball and Soccer, including last year’s Championship game victory and this year’s opening game 3-2 loss in Overtime.
Being highly motivated to win back-to-back State Championships, we started off with a bang as Andres Tourgee stole the ball from an Exeter defender, dribbled into the penalty area, and fired a beautiful shot into the right-hand corner to give us a quick 1-0 lead.
Both teams took turns controlling play without scoring until Exeter tied the game with under 2 minutes left before halftime.
We then exploded for three goals in the third quarter. Dylan Coyne, Isiah DeBarros, and Garrett Shows all scored to give us a comfortable 4-1 lead. Dylan scored our 5th goal with a booming shot from about 20 yards out halfway through the final quarter. We protected our lead with fantastic defense, giving up just one goal.
With 10 seconds to go, the team and all the ConVal fans started the countdown to the final buzzer and the celebration began as we had won back-to-back State Championships with a 5-2 victory!”
Coaches Ellingwood and Bean ended their championship game summary with congratulations to the Team and “a big thank you to all supporters of Unified Soccer!”
