Engineering Design Students Create Lanterns Using CAD

Using Solidworks, a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering application, students in Karen Fabianski’s Engineering Design III class design a lantern.

The Solidworks software is used to assemble the parts, transfer the CAD file to a two-dimensional .jpg file, and then convert it to a RoboDemo (.rd) file that is used to create training simulations and product demonstrations. The .rd file contains the computer instructions to control the speed and feed rate for a laser engraver/cutter.

This unique take on the lantern design assignment was created by senior Wyatt Beaulieu.
