Calometry Experiments In Randy Stetzer’s Honor Chemistry Classes

Students in Randy Stetzer’s Honor Chemistry classes are currently conducting experiments and measurements in calometry. The aim of the lab is to determine how many units of food energy (calories) are contained is various popular snack foods.

By burning a variety of food items below a can of water and noting the increase in temperature that is being captured by an electronic probe in the can connected to their Chromebooks, students determine the temperature change and make conclusions about the amount of energy in the food.
