The event was part of the Youth and Government program, sponsored annually by the YMCA, which allows high school students to serve in model governments at the local, state, national, and international levels.
During the session, junior Gabby Ramsden was elected as the 2024 Youth Governor. Ramsden distinguished herself by giving two great speeches and answering difficult questions about key issues in the state of New Hampshire.
Ramsden will be traveling to Washington, DC, in the spring to meet with other youth governors and learn about leadership. Congratulations, Gabby!

Registering his 100th career win in the first match of the state tournament by pin, Robbins won the 195 weight class championship matchup against Alex Descoteau of John Stark High School.
At the NH State Meet of Champions at Bedford High School on February 25, Robbins defeated Tom LaCroix in the quarter-finals and Zachary Connerty in the semi-finals. At the same event, he received the DiCenzo-Gavriel Award for Best Sportsmanship and won a scholarship as one of the top three student-athletes in the sport.
Robbins went on to compete on March 3-4 in the New England Championships at the Providence Career and Tech Academy in Providence, RI, where he defeated Imanol Taveras of Providence in the quarter-finals and placed third overall with a semi-final win over Brendan Gilchrist of Norwalk, CT.

McCall had prepared for a pair of successful speeches, one on the "elastic clause," a statement in the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8) which grants Congress the power to pass all laws necessary for carrying out the enumerated list of powers, and the other on section 1 of the 14th Amendment, guaranteeing citizenship rights to natural born or naturalized U.S. citizens, including the right to due process and equal protection under the law. Additional preparations included the 6th Amendment (the right to a speedy and public trial in front of a jury of peers), the 10th Amendment (the relationship between the federal government’s powers and those powers reserved to the states), and the 16th Amendment (the power of Congress to lay and collect taxes).
The mission of the American Legion Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution.
The competition is held in two rounds. The first set of speeches involves orations on a constitutional topic and are eight to ten minutes long. In addition, contestants prepare four three- to five-minute speeches on four different constitutional amendments and must be ready to speak on all of them. One of these assigned topic speeches is then chosen for presentation at the contest.
With his win at the District 2 American Legion Oratorical Contest, McCall advances to the state-level contest which will be held at St. Anselm College in Manchester on March 11.

Scholastic Arts American Vision Award nominees must have a Gold Key work with an original, authentic voice or vision. Jurors consider a number of factors that combine the recognition of talent and the representation of diverse mediums, viewpoints, and backgrounds.
For the adjudication panel, Janis' photograph stood out as a "Best in Show" representative for this year's Scholastic Arts Awards exhibition that took place on February 5.

Each year, Scholastic Arts partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7 through 12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing.
Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
