The HOBY Conference is a weekend-long program held at the St. Methodios Center in Contoocook, and will host sophomore student leaders from across New Hampshire. Wheeler, Denehy, and Poluchov were three of thirteen sophomores nominated by school staff for the conference. Eleven candidates were interviewed by the committee. Dominique Wheeler is the daughter of Nicole and Todd Wheeler of Bennington. She is a member of the varsity field hockey team, and the junior varsity basketball and softball teams. She was an ACE award winner last year and also received the French 1 award. Lily Denehy, of Hancock, is the daughter of Susanna Spikol-Faber and Dee Denehy. She is a member of the ConVal soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. She has served as class president and is now class treasurer. Denehy is a member of the student leadership team, school newspaper, and assistant student representative to the ConVal School Board. Denehy is an ACE Award winner and also received the Algebra 2 award. She volunteers at the Harris Center for Conservation Education. Mya Poluchov, from Antrim, is the daughter of Angela Poluchov and Thomas McGlauglin. She is a member of the track team and is active in the ConVal Drama Club and Project Shakespeare. Poluchov was inducted into the International Thespian Society and received an ACE award. She is involved in the Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholars Program and has studied at UC Berkley and Wellesley summer programs. The seminar provides an opportunity for high school sophomores to recognize their potential talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders of the future. An estimated 7,500 sophomores attend the seminars in all 50 states and Canada each year. At the end of each seminar a boy and girl from each location is selected to attend the World Leadership Congress. HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States, serving local and international high school students. HOBY programs provide youth selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences.
