[post_content] => On November 28, ConVal's Director of Choirs Krystal Morin, Instrumental Director Jim Wickham, and Technology Integration Specialist Helfried Zrzavy presented a workshop at the Christa McAuliffe Technology Conference in Manchester.
This workshop demonstrated how several apps of the G-Suite for Education can be effectively integrated for instruction of large performing ensembles. The apps that were demonstrated to work seamlessly for a variety of purposes for ConVal's various chorus and band ensembles included, among others, Google Classroom, Google Sites, Google Voice, and Google Forms.
The presenters explained how technology-enabled assignments in a blended learning environment made it easier to do, before the concert, critical voice checks, folder checks, playing tests and how they facilitated performance assessments after the concert.
The additional information that was provided to students via Google Classroom assignments and the construction of Google sites also helped deepen the understanding of the music pieces in their respective music-historical, geographic, linguistic, and cultural contexts which, together, improved the performance of the pieces in concert.

[post_content] => Find your grail and give your audiences and performers the chance of a lifetime to experience one of the greatest musicals of the modern age — the Tony® Award Winning Best Musical Spamalot!
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of showgirls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.
The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs. (Source: Theatrical Rights Worldwide)
Spamalot will be performed November 15-18 in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre. For details and tickets, visit cvlht.com.

[post_content] => Good afternoon,
As the week comes to a close I wanted to share with the community some reflections and some additional information on the events of Wednesday, November 7th.
Let me begin by updating you with the information I can share. Over the last two days, we have carefully assessed the climate of our buildings. We reviewed attendance rates, we spoke to staff members, and Ann and I have visited every building to touch base with administrators and staff members. Staff have been incredible and have worked hard to make students feel secure. Wherever Ann and I went we saw students that appeared to feel happy and safe.
School counselors have been present in every building across the District to speak with students who feel anxious or need to talk. Additionally, police officers have been present at key times to reassure everyone that the safety of our schools is the top priority of our communities. If you see a staff member, an administrator, or an officer, please thank them for their dedication, caring, and hard work, it made all of the difference.
The students involved are presently in the judicial process and we have begun the school-based discipline process as well. While I can not share specifics with you regarding the school consequences, I can share with you the types of actions that may take place related to these types of behaviors. Students who threaten the safety of school are consequenced consistent with the law and the response that is necessary to address the threat. Actions include discipline that ranges from suspension, (students are neither in school or on school property for up to 10 days) long-term suspension, (students are neither in school or on school property for more than 10 days) and up to and including expulsion (students are excluded from school and can not be on property, and may request of the Board to be readmitted at the beginning of each year, the Board can deny them re-admittance in certain situations). This is above and beyond any additional adjudication that the police may decide to pursue.
This has been a difficult week and we here at ConVal recognize and empathize with the feelings of frustration and anxiety that many of you have faced this week and may continue to face in the weeks to come. As we process the events, we will be reaching out to parents and community members and ask you to share reflections from your perspective. We still have work to do to further streamline our protocols and processes and we will need your feedback to do so.
For now, I would like to sincerely thank the hundreds of parents and community members who reached out with kind words of encouragement and gratitude, you will likely never know how grateful we were for them. I hope you are able to find some time to relax over the long weekend.
Best,
Kimberly Saunders

[post_content] => Good Afternoon,We want to begin by thanking the community for their patience and understanding today. We wanted to share an update of the events of the day and our plans for tomorrow. We truly appreciate the trust you place in us in caring for your children. At 6:00 am, November 7th, 2018, ConVal School District administration received a phone call from the Peterborough Police Department. Peterborough police shared that they were informed by a community member of an online threat to the ConVal school community. The Peterborough Police Department also contacted the police departments of Antrim and Bennington to support the investigation. Out of an abundance of caution and after consultation with local law enforcement, school administrators cancelled school for the day.Working on information provided by the community member, the police departments of Antrim, Bennington, and Peterborough collaborated to investigate the alleged threat. This involved questioning students and obtaining search warrants for personal property, technology, social media, and residences of the students who were allegedly involved. During the investigation, the police determined that there was not an ongoing threat to the ConVal Schools and that school activities could resume on Thursday, November 8th, 2018.Throughout the course of the day on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, district and building administrators worked systematically through an established protocol to partner with local law enforcement to ensure student safety and support the investigation of the alleged threat. In addition, we communicated timely and accurate information to families, staff, and the larger ConVal community, as well as planned for students and staff to return to their buildings.Law enforcement has confirmed that the alleged threat has been addressed. Tomorrow, ConVal students and staff will return to schools. In order to reassure parents and students that schools are safe, building principals will meet with staff prior to the start of school to share specific plans for students’ return to school. Students will be greeted by staff members at all schools upon their arrival, and we anticipate that schools may have law enforcement presence during the school day. Counselors will be present in each school building to address student concerns that may arise. Administrators and staff will maintain established routines for students. Today, we can again be proud to live and serve in a school district that is committed to the safety of students and staff. Please do not hesitate to contact your student’s building administrator or me with your thoughts or questions.Best,Kimberly

[post_content] => Congratulations to the ConVal Cougar Unified Soccer Team who garnered the Division I State Championship again this year. The final game was played on November 4th.
After the game, coach Ellingwood summed up the game this way: "For the second year in a row, our Unified Soccer Team played Exeter for the championship.
Exeter has become our rival in Unified Sports. We have had very competitive contests in both Basketball and Soccer, including last year's Championship game victory and this year's opening game 3-2 loss in Overtime.
Being highly motivated to win back-to-back State Championships, we started off with a bang as Andres Tourgee stole the ball from an Exeter defender, dribbled into the penalty area, and fired a beautiful shot into the right-hand corner to give us a quick 1-0 lead.
Both teams took turns controlling play without scoring until Exeter tied the game with under 2 minutes left before halftime.
We then exploded for three goals in the third quarter. Dylan Coyne, Isiah DeBarros, and Garrett Shows all scored to give us a comfortable 4-1 lead. Dylan scored our 5th goal with a booming shot from about 20 yards out halfway through the final quarter. We protected our lead with fantastic defense, giving up just one goal.
With 10 seconds to go, the team and all the ConVal fans started the countdown to the final buzzer and the celebration began as we had won back-to-back State Championships with a 5-2 victory!"
Coaches Ellingwood and Bean ended their championship game summary with congratulations to the Team and "a big thank you to all supporters of Unified Soccer!"

[post_content] => This past Saturday, November 3rd, the ConVal Cougars were met in the DII boys’ soccer final by beating the Bears of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy at Penman Stadium in Hooksett, NH.
After a back-and-forth first half, Coe-Brown struck first, three minutes into the second half.
Trailing for just the fourth time all season, the Cougars rebounded in a big way. Over the next ten minutes, Taylor Burgess, Colby Knight, and Finn Wegmueller all scored to bring the score to 3-1.
A Coe-Brown goal with about seven minutes to play made things interesting late, but ConVal held on to win 3-2 to win the first boys soccer championship in the history of ConVal Regional High School.
