[post_content] => The ConVal Boys & Girls Cross-Country teams competed at the 42nd edition of the NH Meet of Champions on Saturday facing off against the best teams and individuals from all divisions.
Despite the wet, muddy, and windy conditions, ConVal put together some great racing. The boys finished 13th in the 2018 team meet, moving up to #4 in Division II in the process. The team was led by senior Evan Coyne who qualified as an individual for next weeks New England Championship Meet. Harrison Kim was close behind in the second position followed by Max Boisvert, Danny Veverka, Haven Deschenes, August Kotula, and Tyler Beard — all ran their best races of the season!
The girls' team put together a spectacular performance to finish 3rd and qualify for a team berth to the New England Championship meet. Rachel Hurley led for the Cougars, finishing 8th overall. One spot and two seconds back Clare Veverka took the number two spot for the team, with Schuyler Michalak a strong 3rd close behind. Sarah Newell, Marina McMahon, Reagan Riffle, and Molly Janoch all ran strong races to ensure a strong team placing. All seven runners had their fastest times of the season.
The New England Championship meet is this Saturday and is located at Derryfield Park in Manchester NH this year.

[post_content] => On Thursday, November 1, 2019, eight ConVal singers participate in the 41st annual All New England Choral Festival at Plymouth State University. The festival accepts serious high school singers in grades 10-12.
ConVal singers who participated were: Grace Christensen '20, Aria Drew '20, Sean Grady '20, Patrick LaCroix '19, Liam McCall '20, Grace Phillips '21, Sean Roberts '19, and Cambria Wozmak '19.
Our students joined with over 200 singers from 45 schools throughout New England to prepare works for performance in collaboration with PSU choirs and alumni soloists. The theme for this year's concert was "All of Us" based on the final chorus in Craig Hella Johnson's oratorio, Considering Matthew Shepard. In addition to "All of Us", the students performed "The Listening" a new work by Cheryl B. Englehardt based on MLK's 1963 speech called "Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break The Silence," a piece Sean Caldwell and Paul Ivory called "Soweto: June 1967" about the student uprising in South Africa to protest apartheid, and "Flight Song" by Kim Andre Arnesen.
After the performance, we also met up with some recent ConVal singer alumni — Riley Bemont, Max Kerwin and Bridget Grady — who are currently attending PSU.

[post_content] => The celebration of Halloween has a long history at ConVal and students and staff dressed up for the occasion again this year.
There were many imaginative costumes, including a road construction marker barrel and the Blues Brothers outfits that the administrative assistants wore as a group. German teacher Frau Concannon had a unique outfit.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Ann Forrest came dressed as "The Quarrelsome Q," a character from Letterland, the reading program that has been implemented in Kindergarten and first grade.
The library also hosted a pumpkin carving contest which was won by Ashley Jones, now a three-peat champion of pumpkin carving!

[post_content] => On Friday, October 19, 2018, ConVal's a cappella groups traveled to Winnacunnet High School in Hampton to participate in the 9th annual Voices of the 603 Festival.
As part of this festival, the students come together for a morning of workshops, rehearsal and then an adjudicated evening performance.
During the morning workshops, students had the option to attend classes on arranging music, stage presence and choreography, beatboxing, Barbershop music, working with microphones, body mapping and more. They also had the opportunity to perform for Ball in the House, a professional, Boston-based a cappella group, and receive one-on-one coaching and feedback on their performance.
During the evening portion, each student group performed two songs for adjudicators in a concert that also features university a cappella groups, various other choirs from around the state of New Hampshire, and a performance by Ball in the House.
You can watch videos of the performance here.

[post_content] => The ConVal School Counseling Department partnered with the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) to present information about college financial aid options.
The presentation laid out the steps necessary to navigate through the federal financial aid process (FAFSA), explored what type of aid programs are available, reviewed scholarship searches, and highlighted the importance of meeting deadlines. Though applicable to all college-bound students, this program was specifically geared toward seniors and their parents.
The NHHEAF Network Organizations has over 50 years of experience in helping families plan and pay for higher education. The Organizations are comprised of three independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies: New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF), Granite State Management & Resources (GSM&R) and New Hampshire Higher Education Loan Corporation (NHHELCO). The interconnectedness of these organizations provides students and schools with expertise in all aspects of the student loan industry.
