[post_content] => At ConVal, Chris Ouelette developed an early interest in filmmaking. He is probably most remembered for his filming of the "Don't Stop Believin'" lip-dub video in his junior year.
After graduating from ConVal High School in 2014, Chris attended Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. Full Sail specializes in audio and video production as well as other entertainment and media-related areas of study.
Here is Chris' reflection:
"Towards the end of my time at ConVal, I began to look back on what really stood out to me as a student. The creative freedom of photography and my curiosity for film is what drove me to apply to Full Sail University. This choice was based on their intense, accelerated bachelors degree that can be completed in two years time."
"About halfway through the program, I decided that television was the path that I wished to take and began my training as a technical director. Towards graduation, I began to look for job in my field, which is how I found a position at a news station called WTOC in Savannah, GA."
"WTOC had equipment much more advanced than that of Full Sail’s and understanding their new switcher was something I had to achieve. Within a few weeks I was able to Direct and Technical Direct, TD, my own shows and was given my own time slots to run. After spending 8 months at WTOC I began to look for jobs in a larger market."
"Some searching later, a position opened up at WHBQ in Memphis, TN for a Director / TD position. I applied, followed up, and was given an interview. This job was a fairly big deal because of the fact it is a top 50 market and, being such a young age, this puts me years beyond the competition. I was given the position and currently direct the night shows. In the future, I hope to continue moving up in markets until the opportunity to TD major sporting events."
"For anyone who has an interest in TV, I would recommend asking a local station for a tour or to sit in on one of their newscasts. Most stations will be more than willing to allow that, especially if it is for an educational purpose."
If you want to see Chris in action as a news director, get a behind-the-scenes look and watch him direct the January 11, 2017 news show on WHBQ Fox 13 in this YouTube video.

Members of ConVal's select choir participated in a collaborative performance with the Norway Pond Festival Singers, conducted by Jody Simpson. Despite a blizzard, thirteen ConVal singers were able to make it to the performance to present Carol Barnett's The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass on Sunday, February 12th.
This is the third time that the Festival Singers and the ConVal Select Choir have joined forces. The ConVal Select Choir has been preparing for this performance during weekly their rehearsals since the beginning of the school year in September.
Brilliantly executed by composer Carol Barnett and librettist Marisha Chamberlain, The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass blends the classical mass, modern choral sophistication, touching poetry and traditional bluegrass instrumentation into an exhilarating musical experience.
Composer Carol Barnet says it best, “To bring the solemnity of the classical choir-based mass together with the down-home sparkle of bluegrass—now there’s an assignment! My highest hope is that listeners coming from one tradition — classical or bluegrass —a nd perhaps dubious about the other, might discover something new and wonderful in the combination, as I have. Composing the music for The World Beloved has given me the chance to write sacred music — all too rare in a medium rife with staid and even lugubrious settings. And it’s brought me back to memories of music heard while visiting my grandparents' country music with a church flavor that told stories and came out of a scratchy old record player. Grandma would not have allowed dancing, but under the table I tapped my toes.”
Registration for the 2017-2018 school year begins on February 8 as follows:
February 8, TASC Talk for Juniors (will be called to LHT at 11:23)
February 10, TASC Talk for Sophomores (will be called to LHT at 10:17)
February 10, TASC Talk for Freshmen (will be called to LHT at 10:35)
Individual appointments with all students begin on February 10 and run through the end of March.
The current Program of Studies and all course selection sheets are available on our website.

[post_content] => National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from February 6-10, 2017, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Saunders supports our district counselors. "Please join me in thanking all of our school counselors this week. School counselors are an integral part of our ConVal community," Saunders said. "So often counselors offer advice to students during crucial milestones and turning points. During moments of crisis they work with students, parents, and staff to advocate for what is in the best interest of students."
ConVal school counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; work in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today's world; focus on positive ways to enhance students' social/personal, educational and career development; and work with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master's degree in counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.
The school counselor’s mission is to provide all students with a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student achievement through maximum growth in academic, career, and personal/social domains.

Students of ConVal's Drama Club visited the Community Center recently to meet with the Senior Program to talk about the program and lead members in improvisation/skill building games.
Mrs. Moore, Miranda Craig, Cheyenne Heinselmen and Alex Stone represented ConVal High School on the trip, which was coordinated with Gloria Schultz.
As the photomontage shows, a hysterical time was had by all!
