ConVal Cross Country Runners Off To A Great Start

The Con-Val boys & girls cross-country teams headed to Hollis-Brookline high school for the Coach Korcoulis Invitational.  Over twelve teams competed including DII stalwarts Hollis-Brookline, Oyster River, Pelham, Bow and Saint Thomas.

The girls team continued their winning ways taking top honors and moving their season record to an impressive 0-23.  Clare Veverka once again led the cougars with a solid 2nd place finish, fellow sophomore Schuyler Michalak was an impressive 6th on the tough course.  Senior Pair Lucy Freeman and Sawyer Cawthern were 14th and 16th, respectively, putting in their best performances ever on the course.  Freshmen Hailey Doherty, Marina Mcmahon and junior Leah Danforth rounded out the varsity seven with excellent performances of their own.  Sophomore Moll Janoch earned a medal for her 5th place finish in the JV race, in just her second career 5k.
The boys were 9th but within striking distance of the top 5 despite only two returning runners racing varsity today.  Ben Henry led the charge with fellow sophomore Evan Coyne close behind.  Oliver Ellerkamp and Casey Burgess followed the lead pair and were trailed closely by freshmen Liam Gilligan, Jackson Burnham and junior Alex McCall.  Senior Liam Veverka, who was 25th in division II last year, sported his brace in the JV race finishing 8th, approximately one month after being cleared to run after a soccer injury last winter.
