National Student Poet Eileen Huang Visits ConVal

ConVal welcomed National Student Poet Eileen Huang for a presentation in the ConVal Library during TASC.
Huang is a published poet, a sophomore who attends High Technology High School in New Jersey. She was selected as the North East Region Student Poet for 2015-16. Huang read from her work, did a Q & A and visited classrooms to run poetry writing workshops.
The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers partner to present the National Student Poets Program, the country’s highest honor for young poets (grades 10–11) presenting original work.
The program strives to inspire other young people to achieve excellence in their own creative endeavors and promote the essential role of writing and the arts in academic and personal success. Huang was honored, along with the other regional poets for 2015-16, in a White House ceremony by First Lady Michelle Obama. A video of the ceremony is available online, with Eileen’s part starting at about 15 mins. For more about Huang, there is a short self-presentation on YouTube.
