Students in Mike Wozmak’s American Government and Economics class learn how to evaluate and deal with difficult subjects that are current in the news.
Thursday’s lesson looked at the short and long-term financial and social consequences for children who have lost a parent or suffered severe economic setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I believe it is important to tackle current events in the class,” said Mike Wozmak.
The prompt for today’s news-based discussion came from Marketplace Morning Report. While some students still reviewed the podcast online, Wozmak made sure to check in and engage with students individually before facilitating an informed whole-class discussion.
