“Speed Dating” Influential Psychological Thinkers

Students in Mrs. Gagnon’s psychology are engaged in “speed dating with the stars.”

The lesson has two parts. First, students must research an assigned prominent psychologist, from Hippocrates to Erik H. Erikson.  They then need to speed date with a partner for 60 seconds trying to communicate to the other student that this psychologist has the most influence in the field of psychology.  Each student has a “date” with each psychologist. At the end of the activity, they write a short essay on whom they chose and why.

This is a great introductory assignment to have students be exposed to a wide variety of psychologists in a very short period of time.  This also lends itself to a formative assignment in presentation skills.
