Students Use Digital Audio Workstations To Compose Themes And Variations

The students in Brian Moore’s Music in Media class are using Apple GarageBand, a digital audio workstation for macOS, to compose themes and variations for a character, a mood, person, or a location.

In this assignment, the students exercise total choice in their work, selecting every aspect of their work through knowledge they have learned and shared in class.

In addition to learning music theory, instrumentation and techniques of composition, students have studied functions of film scoring through various types of media to determine how to create music independently that aligns and enhances the actions, thoughts and emotions of characters, plot and their development.

“I am very proud of each of them for expressing themselves through music in such wonderful and brilliant ways,” said Moore of his class.
