Students Create Their Own Recycled Instruments

As part of the waves and sound unit in Ms. Wallace’s Physics class, students were asked to build musical instruments that play at least 5 different notes.

The assignment was open to individual student interpretations. The final products ranged from a kalimba made from paper plates and hair pins to xylophones made from woodblocks and wrenches, from drums made of cans and plastic balloons to glasses and cans whose pitch was controlled with differing amounts of water.

The students presented their instruments in the ConVal cafeteria to visitors.
