Rowan Tyne Winner Of Rotary Speech Contest

Four ConVal students took part in the Peterborough Rotary Club’s Four Way Test Speech Contest at the Club’s weekly meeting at the Unitarian Church in Peterborough.

Seniors Emma Brown, Emma Johnson, Hannah Cheneau and Rowan Tyne advanced to the contest after competing through their Public Speaking class at ConVal High School. Under the direction of English teacher Cathy Riley, the students composed five to seven minute, original speeches that apply the Rotary Four Way Test in our everyday relationships with other people.

The Four-Way Test is:

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Rotarians scored the speeches based on content, organization, and delivery. In the end, Johnson received fourth place; Brown third; Cheneau second, and Tyne received first place.

Tyne will go on to compete at the District level in Henniker.
