Congratulations to the following four students who have been accepted to the New England Music Festival this year:
Kaylee Calistro (Band-Trumpet)
Austin Sloan (Band-Alto Sax)
Abby Theberge (Chorus-Soprano)
Emeline Tyler-Wall (Band-Bass Clarinet)
The Concert Festival will take place from March 11-13 this year. "Typically, we would attend a New England High School for those three days and have rehearsals with an esteemed music director," noted Band Director Jim Wickham and Chorus Director Brian Moore. "However, due to COVID, we are unsure of the format of the festival at this time."
The process for acceptance to the Festival included individually practicing and working up a solo selection of the students' choice to performance level. Students then recorded it and submitted it for review. The adjudicators are typically college professors for the students' instrument and voice.
The New England Music Festival Association (NEMFA) is dedicated to offering high school musicians from across New England the opportunity to pursue musical excellence. Through solo festivals, ensemble festivals, and concert festivals, NEMFA seeks to instill in each student a lifelong interest in music as a basic human experience.

Food topics are always popular in German class, and this year's students of German had a special opportunity to test their skills by participating in the “Wie gut ist lecker” contest organized by the Goethe Institut in Boston. The competition involved students' thoughts on sustainability and food.
At the conclusion of the contest, the Goethe Institut announced that ConVal students had won the top three placements. The following German IV students were the winners of the contest:
First place: Anthea Curtis and Tate Doherty
Second place: Lily Heck
Third place: Cameron Jordan and Elli Ward
The students will get to have a virtual workshop with a German food blogger. Congratulations!
The Goethe Institut serves as the German Culture Center for New England. Its mission is to engage in the fields of cultural and digital education and to focus on topics related to German-speaking countries being debated in the public and the media.
On December 14, the ConVal Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 21 new members in a virtual ceremony on Zoom. ConVal's NHS advisors Amy Duderewicz and Sara King served as the emcees for the event.

On October 9, Athletic Director John Reitnauer received an email from WMUR, thanking ConVal for its contributions to the annual "New Hampshire Tackles Hunger" campaign.
The letter on behalf of WMUR Sports Director Jamie Staton reads as follows:
"Congratulations! Your local food bank, the Peterborough Food Pantry, has reached $1,045, which means your food pantry has received a matching gift of $500 through the generosity of the Lois Roy Dickerman Fund. Your total including this is $1,545.
In seven years, “NH Tackles Hunger” has collected 455,000 pounds of food which equals 380,000 meals for NH families. I want to personally congratulate you and your team for a job well done. This is by far the most successful NH Tackles Hunger Fundraiser we have ever done.
With your generous help, the total collected this year was $81,818.45 which includes school donations made, the Dead River $10,000 gift and the matching $500 from the Lois Roy Dickerman Fund of the NH Charitable Foundation for each school that met or exceeded $500.00 in donations. This year’s cash converted to pounds totals 196,363 pounds providing 163,636 meals to our neighbors experiencing hunger.
Thank you for all of your help. We couldn’t have done it without you!"
