Sarah Newell and Jill Karlicek received 2nd place in the American Institute of Architects New Hampshire (AIANH) High School Design Competition.
The objectives of the competition are to: increase awareness of the relationships between space, human scale and function; gain experience in recognizing the various challenges in planning and designing indoor and outdoor spaces for specific uses; exercise analytical abilities and creativity in solving the problems; and gain experience in communicating planning and design ideas using scale drawings and models.
The competition gives students a fun opportunity to develop these skills and to learn about the various aspects of planning and design.
All New Hampshire high school students are encouraged to participate. Students can work individually or in teams of up to three students. Top winners receive cash awards to help with their college education.
Congratulations, Sara and Jill, on a job well done!
Congratulations to ConVal Science teacher Moira Milne who is the recipient of the 2019 New Hampshire STEM Excellence in Teaching Award.
The award was presented during a faculty meeting at ConVal Regional High School on Wednesday, April 17, by Bob Rotier. Rotier is the Mathematics & Science Teacher Awards Chair of the New Hampshire Society of Professional Engineers (NHSPE).
NHSPE is the society of engineering professionals in New Hampshire that promotes the ethical and competent practice of engineering, advocates licensure, and enhances the image and well being of its members while implementing the program of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) at the state level.
Congratulations, Dr. Milne, on this prestigious award!
On April 15, the Region 14 Applied Technology Center inducted forty ConVal Regional High School students into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

A self-taught computer programmer, Boice took his love of history into the digital age, creating Newpast: Peterborough 1886. This interactive game allows the user to explore Peterborough as it was in 1886 as compared to how it is now.
In March, the Educators Rising club at ConVal Regional High School sent students to a statewide competition at the Southern New Hampshire University's School of Education where they engaged in the series of performance-based events to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and growing leadership in education.
The students' participation was a first in the history of the club which is open to juniors and seniors enrolled in the Region 14 Teacher Education Program. They competed in a blend of individual and team events in categories such as public speaking, ethical dilemma, creative lecture, job interview skills, and children's literature.
Three ConVal students — senior Leah Stone, junior Tracie Dailey, and junior Molly Reed — were selected for their creativity, commitment, and professionalism to move on to the national Educator Rising competition which will be held in Dallas, Texas, from June 22-25, 2019. Congratulations on qualifying for the national conference!
The Educators Rising organization is a division of Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK), a professional organization that supports students who are interested in education-related careers. PDK helps guide young students on a path to becoming accomplished teachers, beginning in high school and extending through college into the profession.

[post_content] => Students from four New England high schools competed at the Goethe Institut's Hip-Hop Battle Boston last Saturday. The participating schools were: Boston Latin School, Boston, MA; ConVal Regional High School, Peterborough, NH; Cony High School, Augusta, ME; and Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, Sudbury, MA.
Each school put forth two teams. ConVal sent Team "Dudelsack" (German for "bagpipe"), consisting of Grace Christensen, Alexis Cleary, Bronwyn Tyler-Wall, and Finn Wegmueller; Team "Die Bernsteins" was represented by Lenny Romard, Eddie Sulborski, and Greta Topping.
For the competition, the teams workshopped to write rap texts about a given topic, practiced their performance, improved their pronunciation and stage presence, and got inspiration from experts - all in German, of course!
The event was judged by a four-person jury comprised of representatives from the Goethe Institute, the German Consulate, the Berklee School of Music, and the German School in Boston, and Team "Dudelsack" emerged as the winner. As part of their first prize, their rap song will be professionally recorded in the weeks to come.
The Goethe Institut is a non-profit German cultural association that operates 159 institutes worldwide with the mission to promote the study of the German language abroad and to encourage international cultural exchanges. Around 246,000 people take part in Goethe Institut activities every year.
