[post_content] => National college recruiting expert Jack Renkins will speak to student athletes and their parents about opportunities for entering the recruiting process on March 9, 2016 at 7:00pm in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre.
From his days as a high school coach, administrator and teacher through his time as coach and Athletic Director at an award winning NCAA Division II school, Jack has witnessed the game from all sides. Jack founded Recruiting Realities, an organization dedicated to exploding the myths and presenting the realities of athletic recruiting to student-athletes, their families, coaches and school counselors. His highly informative and sought after program has been featured at thousands of schools across the United States, on numerous television programs and at sports camps from coast to coast. In addition, he is a weekly contributor to several major newspapers and magazines.
His message about collegiate athletic recruiting is simple: “It’s a game … know the rules.”
High school student athletes serious about continuing to play sports in college can never start too early nor get too much help. However, most students do not know the recruiting game, NCAA rules, or how to get matched with the best college choice for them. Jack will clarify recruiting myths and provide tips to parents and to students who are serious about taking their high school athletics to the next level. All student athletes and their families will be admitted to the program free. For more information contact Mark Swasey in the the Athletic Office (x4653). For more details, see www.recruitingrealities.com.

[post_content] => Over February break, Brian Pickering, Gib West, and Steve Bartsch attended the 2016 Conference of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). The conference theme was "Ignite: Connect. Innovate. Thrive." Over 3,000 principals and assistant principals from around the country were in attendance.
The NASSP celebrated its 100th anniversary with a luncheon that featured Rick Wormeli, one of the first Nationally Board Certified teachers in America and a leader in the competency-based education and standards-based grading movements. ConVal High School is currently in a multi-year process to phase in competencies.
Among the many inspirational conference speakers was Robert Putnam, Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University who, in June of 2015, had delivered a guest presentation on education and economic opportunities at ConVal.
The 2016 NASSP conference also included a model school showcase with administrators, teachers, and students from 18 high performing schools that are sustaining student-centered school improvement.

[post_content] => The Android app making projects that were undertaken at ConVal Regional High School during the fall semester were the subject of a recent web post by the NH Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR); the website is maintained by the University of New Hampshire.
The Creative Computing Challenge, under whose auspices four ConVal teachers were trained in app making during the summer, was conducted in collaboration with Mihaela Sabin, associate professor of computer science at UNH Manchester. In the fall, ConVal students used the MIT App Inventor 2 online creation platform for app development and a network-connected ASUS tablet as an instant testbed for their Android apps.
The National Science Foundation established EPSCoR to strengthen science and engineering infrastructure in states that historically have received less in federal research grants. In the last ten years, since NH became an EPSCoR state, more than $118 million in competitive federal grants have been awarded to the University of New Hampshire, Dartmouth College, and several academic and industry partners to support basic research in environmental and space science, biomedicine and health sciences, and energy.
