Each year, Scholastic Arts partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7 through 12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing.
Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
Rowan Inglis, Corey Ouelette, Evan Turner, and Abby Watson — all ConVal seniors and ATC engineering students — recently completed their SolidWorks Associates Certification while engaged in remote learning.
The CSWA exam is administered by Dassault Systèmes and is one of the most widely used mechanical computer-aided design (CAD) packages in the world.
SolidWorks is an example of how certification can distinguish a standout designer or design engineer from the rest of the crowd.
The Region 14 ATC at ConVal High school prides itself on teaching students the skills and competencies that are needed to achieve in today’s workplace.
ConVal senior Angus Kirkpatrick, an engineering student in the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC), has received certification as a SolidWorks Associate.

The Region 14 ATC at ConVal High school prides itself in teaching students skills or competencies needed to achieve in today's modern world. As a part of many ATC programs students achieve high school and college credit through a program called Running Start. Students generally receive either the Governors or STEM scholarship to cover the cost of the college courses. The ConVal district picks up any remaining fees to make sure all students can take part in this experience.
On Monday, March 2, Jacob Demers received a Certificate of Appreciation from Jerry Galus of the Peterborough Economic Development Authority (EDA).
Demers was recognized for his contributions to a panel at Franklin Pierce University where he explained the many educational opportunities and benefits that the Region 14 Applied Technology Center (ATC) offers ConVal High School students through its Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes.
The ConVal Nordic team had an excellent day of racing in Whitefield, NH on Saturday, culminating in two skiers qualifying for the NH U16 team and another skier taking 4th place in the Boys B race.
Allison Bull and Jaimini Viles each skied fast enough to have their combined times from the NH Coaches Series February 1 classic race and this Saturday’s skate race place them in the top 24 boys and girls in the State in the U16 category (birth years 2004 and 2005.)
They will go on to represent NH in the New England U16 Championships slated to take place on March 6-8 in Chittenden, VT, competing against similar teams from Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and sometimes New York. In addition, Avery Pope took fourth place in the Boys B race on the challenging 5K course at the White Mountain Regional High School.
Cougar co-captain Cami Hendrixson and Eva Calcutt were also in contention for placing on the U16 teams but were narrowly edged out in the stiff competition during the girls A race.
Senior and co-captain Rowan Inglis posted his best performance in his four years skiing in the Coaches Series and was joined by Philip Pope in scoring for the ConVal team in the Boys A race after Viles.
Avery Pope led the way in the Boys B race, followed by Cougars Lewis Carlton, Sam Rousseau, Riley Momenee, David DeShane, and Dhanesh Airi.
On the girls side, Gwen Inglis, Eme Tyler-Wall, Abby Hendrixson, and Margot Kratzenberg all scored for the ConVal team in the B race.
The Cougars travel to Hanover on Wednesday for their final divisional skate race, then go on to the Division II State Championships on March 4.
ConVal senior Liam McCall (center) won first place in the District 2 American Legion Oratorical Contest which was held at Post #23 in Milford on Saturday, February 15. McCall won with a pair of successful speeches, one on the principle of no taxation without representation and the second on an assigned topic, which for McCall was the 20th Amendment.
ConVal High School was represented by three students at the competition which included students from Merrimack and Milford high schools. Garrick Colby spoke on "The Bulwarks of Tyranny" while Daniel McCall, Liam's younger brother who is a freshman this year, delivered a speech on civil liberties.
The mission of the American Legion Oratorical Contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution.
The competition is held in two rounds. The first set of speeches involves orations on a constitutional topic and are eight to ten minutes long. In addition, contestants prepare four three- to five-minute speeches on four different constitutional amendments and must be ready to speak on all of them. One of these "assigned topic" speeches is then chosen for presentation at the contest.
With his win at the District 2 American Legion Oratorical Contest, his second in a row, McCall advances to the state-level contest at St Anselm’s College which will be held on March 7.
