RENEW

RENEW (Rehabilitation, Empowerment, Natural Supports, Education and Work) is an individualized school-to-career planning process for youths with emotional and behavioral challenges. Among its key features are: self-determination, a strength-based approach, personal futures planning, individualized school-to-career planning, as well as building family and community supports.

RENEW is a Tier 3 Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) initiative. The model focuses on supporting each youth to design and pursue a plan for the transition from school to adult life. RENEW has substantially increased the high school completion, employment, and post-secondary education participation rates among our most vulnerable youth.

To date, more than two dozen staff members at ConVal Regional High School have been trained in the RENEW

process and are working one-on-one with students on a continuing basis. Over fifty ConVal students have been active participants in RENEW.

RENEW coaches Judy Heddy and Shawn King have presented the APBS International Conference on Positive Behavior Support as well as the UNH IOD PBIS Conferences about the success of RENEW at ConVal.

Currently, ConVal is part of the first efficacy study about RENEW. Led by the Institute of Educational Sciences at the University of Vermont, the IES study is a randomized control trial. ConVal is one of four school nationwide that is participating. For more information, watch this video.
