Principal Heather McKillop met with families on the apron of ConVal Regional High School to welcome newcomers to the district and to talk about the transition to high school.
"These informal meet and greets proved very beneficial," said McKillop. "In all, we had over 40 families RSVP and drive up through the bus loop to join me curbside for physically distanced conversations."
"Seeing so many smiling faces truly makes me excited to begin the school year together in September," she noted. "I appreciated getting to meet so many students and families as well as getting to respond to their specific questions." Many of the questions revolved around ConVal's school reopening plans in September.
"For those of you I have not yet met, please know that I look forward to welcoming you to the high school in the near future," McKillop concluded.

Addendum:The original plan to create student cohorts in the Blue & Gold Reopening Model was based on an alphabetical sort. In response to feedback from the community, the plan that was approved by the ConVal School Board in the meeting on August 4 now foresees the creation of cohorts based on geographical location — Blue Cohort: students from Antrim, Bennington, Francestown, Greenfield, and Hancock; Gold Cohort: students from Dublin, Peterborough, Sharon, and Temple.
To further discuss the reopening plan, there are community meetings scheduled for Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 pm and for Friday, August 7, at 10:00 am. Each meeting offers an in-person option in the ConVal gym, followed by a Zoom meeting online.
Principal Heather McKillop, Director of Student Services Cari Christian Coates, and Director of Student Counseling Tim Cotreau met with ConVal High School students to address mental health issues.
Mental health conditions like depression and anxiety have been either triggered or made worse by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, particularly for those who had existing psychiatric conditions.
In early July, two ConVal rising seniors had launched a letter-writing campaign urging the ConVal School Board to enact better mental health policies.
The letter called upon the administration to budget for more available mental health professionals, to welcome established Title IX reporting processes, and to focus on providing resources for struggling students.
This first meeting marked the beginning of a long-term dialogue that will include student voices in developing effective strategies as ConVal makes mental health and well-being a district priority.

Keep social distancing (6 feet) throughout the check-in process; there will be ground marks to assist you in this.

Guests must remain in their seating area throughout the ceremony.
Professional photographs will be taken of each graduate and will be available for purchase.
Diploma distribution:
Graduates in rows will be asked to stand. (Example: Row 1 – please stand).
Using proper social distancing (6 feet - with ground marks to help) a class marshall will escort the line to the appropriate starting point.
The graduate's name will be called, that student will walk onto the stage, pick up their diploma, walk off the stage, pick up one yellow rose, and return to their seat all while maintaining social distancing of 6 feet at all times.
End of Ceremony:
At the end of the ceremony, families and graduates must immediately return to their vehicles and leave the parking lot.
We cannot have any congregating on the field or in the parking lot.
We understand that there are a lot of rules and protocols to follow; however, it is our intention to give you as normal a graduation as possible.
Please follow this link to RSVP for graduation. It is imperative we know who is coming so we can plan for arrival times and seating for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at dcoyne@conval.edu.
In the event of rain, graduation will be held on Sunday, August 9th at 6:00 pm.

After much consideration, the ConVal Regional High School administrative team and the Class of 2020 officers have reached a decision regarding prom.
We know the topic of prom has been weighing heavily on everyone’s minds. Over these past few months, we have worked tirelessly to find a way to safely host this event for the class. However, we regret to inform you that prom has been canceled in the interest of everyone’s health and wellbeing. We have come to this decision after much deliberation with students and staff over how we could safely hold this event. While current restrictions issued by Governor Sununu’s office would allow for the event to occur at half capacity, individuals not of the same family would still have to be six feet apart, and all attendees would need to wear face masks. These restrictions would not allow for activities such as dancing to occur.
The Class of 2020 officers will continue to look into all available options to hold an event in the future or to put the class’s funds to good use. You can stay updated on their plans by following the class Instagram account, @conval2020.

Because in-person meetings with 8th graders cannot be held at this time, the ConVal Regional High School Counseling Department has put together a short video.
The video explains, among others, the ConVal bell schedule, the flexible TASC block, the program of studies, graduation requirements, and student involvement in co-curricular programs and athletics.
