[post_content] => Over February break, nine ConVal students of Spanish participated in a trip to Costa Rica. Señor Kennedy guided the immersive language learning experience in conjunction with the company Ecoteach.
The students visited an organic coffee cooperative, spent nights with local families, visited a school, rode horses, and got to explore the ecology and ecosystems Costa Rica's Caribbean Coast.
"We had a great trip and learned a lot," Mr. Kennedy said. "Students saw animals like sloths, crocodiles, tropical birds, and iguanasin their natural habitats, they got to interact with native speakers, and we ate some great food."

[post_content] => ConVal High School is excited to welcome the Class of 2023!
The first step in the transition from middle school to high school will begin with an informational night for parents/guardians on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 6:30 pm at ConVal High School. This program is for parents and guardians only, as the students will have their own meetings with us at their school.
On February 11, the high school counselors will begin working with the Great Brook and South Meadow eighth graders on selecting courses for next year. Independent school students are invited to the high school on Friday, February 15 at 9:30 am for an information session. Please RSVP to Kim Chandler at kchandler@conval.edu.
We are eager to meet our new Freshman class and to work with them on choosing their classes.
Families outside of the ConVal School District can obtain a registration packet by emailing Registrar Stacy Whitaker at swhitaker@conval.edu or calling 924-4120.

[post_content] => ConVal Regional High School students have begun their extended learning opportunity (ELO) in phaze welding at the MAxT makerspace on Vose Farm Road.
The Phaze Welding Technology Center provides a one-of-a-kind training program at MAxT which prepares students to become American Welding Society (AWS) Certified welders.
AWS provides the only certification that allows them to work as a welder anywhere in North America, opening up opportunities for higher wages and career advancement.
Led by instructor Dan Guillou, the certificate program is 130 hours, taken at the pace of the student, where they learn how to do basic metal inert gas (MIG), flux core and stick welds.

[post_content] => Over the weekend, ConVal's Select Choir took first place in the Hillsboro Lion's Club's first annual New Hampshire High School Sing-Off Competition.
The Choir performed a challenging repertoire, including "Here We Come A-Caroling," a traditional English carol arranged by Joshua Sparkman; "Weep O Mine Eyes" by John Bennett; "Sleeping in Winter's Arms" from Wenceslas by Bob Chilcott; and "Tshosholoza," a traditional South African freedom song, arranged by Jeffrey Ames. Grace Christensen ('20), Sean Roberts ('19), and Aria Drew ('20) were the soloists.
The $1000 prize from the High School Sing-Off Competition will go towards providing scholarships for the choir's upcoming trip to Montreal, Canada.

[post_content] => On Friday, February 15, a packed audience in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre was treated to the "Love & Winter" edition of the Black Fly Story Hour.
The event was a fundraiser for the Thornton Wilder Center for the Arts, the proposed ConVal High School performing arts center building.
Jamie Trowbridge served once more as the Master of Ceremony. Storytellers included Jud Hale, Zoë Wroten-Heinzmann, John Kerrick, Linda Greenwood, Lila Trowbridge, Clay Hollister, Daisy Young, Ben Putnam, Michelle Tourgee, and Bill Edson.
During the intermission, there was a special film premiere, a short documentary by Carter Hammond featuring community members, faculty, alumni, students, and parents expressing their thoughts on why the center is necessary and what it could offer for our community.
The Black Fly Story Hour is an homage to NPR’s Moth Radio Hour.

Mr. Levesque's Photo II students create individual websites with different pages that contain their artist statement, their photographic specialty (e.g. landscapes, portraits, etc.), themes, and installations. Students design their website to be both informative and visually attractive so that their online presence best reflects their artistic sensibilities and digital photography skills.

A special event on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm will honor the Scholastic Art and Writing Award winners and display their work in a gallery showing.
Each year, Scholastic Arts partners with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7 through 12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing.
Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
