The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a standardized test administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT, but it’s more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.
The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional test and will be administered to 11th graders on October 13, 2021, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The test is geared toward students in 11th grade; however, students in 10th grade may also take the test.
The cost is $18 per test; fee waivers are available for income-eligible students.
The PSAT has two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.
The test lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes, excluding breaks.
The deadline for registration and payment is October 1st. Students should sign up in the counseling office.

There was even an opportunity to participate in a jam session in the Band Room with ConVal teachers Brock Lambert and Mike Wozmak.
The ConVal Games also have a competitive dimension. Each class competes individually and in groups to determine a class champion. The class with the most tickets earns the right to choose their school color for the year. This year's winner was the Junior class.
"I was thrilled to participate in my first ConVal Games," said Principal Heather McKillop after the event. "I was able to visit many of the activities and talked to students at each station. The ConVal Games were a great culture-building activity for our school as we come back together in person."
On Thursday afternoon, the ConVal Unified Soccer Team (in the white uniforms) played a friendly scrimmage against the Junior Varsity ConVal Cougars Soccer Team.
The Unified Team was well-coached from the sidelines by co-coaches Emeric Szep and Zak Shapiro. Great defensive plays on both sides led to intensely fought midfield duels that turned into solid chances on the far ends of the field to score goals.
A special guest at the scrimmage was ConVal Principal Heather McKillop. "I was so honored to be invited to be a partner for the Unified scrimmage," McKillop said after the game. "Every time I looked up, I saw teammates smiling and cheering each other on."
"Both teams played hard and the crowd was constantly cheering loudly. I am so proud of both teams and ecstatic that our Unified team captured the victory with a score of 12-7. Go ConVal!"
On Wednesday, twelve ConVal student athletes went to Hannaford to purchase food items in support of this year's NH Tackles Hunger Campaign.
To make this community service activity competitive, the students were split into teams and given a set "budget." Their goal was to buy nonperishable healthy foods and try to make meals that they would want to eat — not an easy task.
Students used their phone calculators to stay within their team's given budget and spent over an hour to spend $50 while making careful choices.
"Every year this might be one of my favorite parts of this program," said Conval School Board member Katherine Heck. "Students really learn what shopping on a tight budget looks like."
"The students' behavior was exemplary, as were their manners," Heck added.
Seven of Mr. Wickham’s music students met this week to start a new band. Going by the working name Contemporary Band, the group is made up of Mr. Wickham’s current and former Introduction to Guitar and Concert Band students.
The goal of Contemporary Band is to provide more opportunities for students to perform guitar and keyboard for large audiences. The students began their collaboration with the song Sliver, written and recorded by Nirvana in 1990.
They hope to add new members and are especially looking for keyboardists. Any ConVal student interested in joining, and renaming, Contemporary Band is encouraged to let Mr. Wickham know.
Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Heather Mckillop are pleased to announce that ConVal School District is continuing its longstanding tradition of participation in NH Tackles Hunger Week this year.
NH Tackles Hunger began Monday, Sept. 13 and ends Saturday, Sept. 18. The canned goods drive is organized by WMUR and the New Hampshire Food Bank with sports teams across the state.
Community members are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned food items to this weekend’s homecoming games. All donations will be delivered to the Peterborough Food Pantry. To view the homecoming games schedule, please click here.
Throughout the week, high school students will have the opportunity to drop off canned goods in bins outside of their classrooms.
Residents can make a direct donation to the Peterborough Food Pantry by clicking here.
Last year, the school collected monetary donations in lieu of canned goods due to COVID-19 concerns. ConVal collected over $2,300 in donations. In total, ConVal has collected thousands of pounds of food through its participation in the program.
“Each year, I am pleasantly surprised by the sheer number of donations that we receive during NH Tackles Hunger Week. It is so inspiring to see residents come together in an effort to benefit families in the surrounding community,” said Superintendent Rizzo Saunders. “In the past, our district has collected the most donations in the state and I am confident that we can do it again this year. I encourage all those who can to participate.”
Frau Concannon’s German 2 classes recently held their first "Kannst Du überleben?" ("Survivor") competition. The classes were divided into teams and competed in a banner-making challenge.
The goal was for each team to depict on a banner the flag, crest, and three tourist sites of the German city of their choice. In addition, each team created name tags for team members.
The guest judges, including Principal McKillop and Social Studies teachers Mr. Leonard and Mr. Bowman, selected their favorite banner based on creativity and information.
In Block 1, Team Kӧln (Cologne) won the challenge, and in Block 2, Team Hamburg finished on top.
During Homecoming, we will be collecting non-perishable food for the NH Tackles Hunger campaign.
Collection bins for each of the high school classes and faculty are located in the link near the main entrance, and there will also be collection bins at each home game next week.
In the past, we have collected over $2,500 in monetary donations as well as thousands of pounds of food, and we have been the top collection site in the state the past few years.
So let's all show our Cougar pride and be the best in the state again this year. Thank you for your support!
