[post_content] => The ConVal Music Department celebrated the end of the year with a joint Band and Chorus Potluck. The event also honored the accomplishments of the outgoing seniors in both ensembles.
The Band and Chorus Potluck is an annual event where all music department students come together for an evening to wrap up and reflect on their year of field trips, festivals, and performances. This year, students hung out, played yard games, and battled each other on an inflatable jousting ring.
Besides the jousting ring, the highlight of the evening is the presentation of the senior superlative awards, where each senior is recognized by their peers and given a parting gift from their ensemble director.

[post_content] => Over 220 visitors attended the end-of-year Celebration of Learning at ConVal Regional High School on June 7.
There was a wide array of student work on display, from thoughtful, StoryCorps-inspired audio interviews in English classes to exhibits on student entrepreneurship. There were displays about local agriculture and hydroponic gardening.
The Library Learning Commons hosted student art exhibits, while visitors to the band room could watch student film music scoring exemplars. World language demonstrations combined science with foreign language skills as well as geography knowledge and cultural understanding.
Skillful woodworking craftsmanship was on display in front of the cafeteria, and a public forum on climate change was held in a chemistry class. Student internship reports and extended learning opportunity (ELO) presentations demonstrated student learning, both inside and outside the walls of ConVal High School.
The Lucy Hurlin Theatre was the venue for the final presentations for the Mariposa YES competition, with the student team representing the 100 Nights Cold Weather Shelter in Keene taking first place.
There were demonstrations of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) projects. One example of student work, titled "Newpast," allowed visitors to virtually explore, in 3D, Peterborough as it existed in 1886.
Thank you to all the students and faculty who prepared this diverse celebration of learning at ConVal High School. It was a very impressive evening indeed.

On Thursday, UNH filmmaker Dan Habib came to the Lucy Hurlin Theatre at ConVal Regional High School to share his latest documentary, "Garrett Shows: I'm In Charge." The movie, part of Habib’s Intelligent Lives documentary project, follows ConVal student Garrett Shows as he attends classes, participates in Unified Basketball, completes an internship, and holds a job at the local supermarket.
The documentary highlights how ConVal has put in place a number of evidence-based transition strategies for Garrett and other students with disabilities. These strategies include an emphasis on inclusive education, student-led IEP meetings, internships and extended learning opportunities, Unified Sports, paid work opportunities, family engagement and a regular diploma track for students with intellectual disabilities.
After each of the three screenings, Shows and Habib interacted with the audience, fielded questions, and asked how ConVal can do an even better job of being inclusive of students with different abilities.
ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Saunders and School Board member Linda Quintanilha met with Habib after the last showing and were offered the opportunity to show the full-length Intelligent Lives documentary at ConVal in the fall.

[post_content] => 8th Grade Orientation for Students and Parents brought a crowd into the ConVal Gymnasium on May 30.
Principal Gib West opened the event and stressed the importance of getting involved, as early as possible, in the many activities that the high school offers to its students. School Counseling Director Kim Chandler recommended to check in with the school nurses to ensure that all updated information is in the student's file and to make first contact with the students' school counselors.
Student speaker Lily Denehy stressed the importance of using this evening to start exploring the rich athletic program at ConVal and the many co-curricular offerings that ConVal has in store for students.
Audience members then took advantage of one of the many student-led tours through ConVal Regional High School and explored the tables that were set up to provide information on various programs.
Thank you for coming, everyone, and we look forward to seeing you for New Student Day in August!

Creating the works were three pairs of collaborators: seniors Nik Batty & Anna McGuiness, juniors Eamon Welby & Jaclyn Clark, and art department chair Ben Putnam and his wife Ann Putnam. All works needed to be 4'x4' and were inspired by Dan Forrest's composition "Requiem For The Living."
The art works were displayed in the Peterborough Town House where the Monadnock Chorus performed Dan Forrest's powerful "Requiem for the Living", Beethoven's "Elegische Gesang", and Elgar's "Nimrod from Enigma Variations."
